Peter Shanks, takes delivery of the Queen Elizabeth

Cunard Line has taken delivery of Queen Elizabeth – the second largest Cunarder ever and the third new liner the company has built in six years.

The Handover Ceremony took place today on board the new 92,400-ton vessel at the Fincantieri Monfalcone shipyard.

The event included a speech by Cunard president and managing director Peter Shanks (pictured).

The ship is due to leave the shipyard today (30 September) and will sail to Southampton where she will berth at the Ocean Cruise Terminal on Friday 8 October, ahead of her naming by HM The Queen on Monday 11 October.

She will depart on her Maiden Voyage at 1700 hours on Tuesday 12 October.

About Adam Coulter
Adam Coulter was a bit of a cruise novice when he took over the captaincy of Cruise International in 2010. In the past year and a half he's jumped right in, clocking up seven cruises in a year and a half plus a visit to the Panama Canal. When he's not on board a ship he likes nothing more than jumping off to do a spot of scuba diving, preferably in the warm waters of the Caribbean.
