Cunard’s three ships leave New York together

The three Queens leave New York Harbour together

Cunard’s three ships met and left New York together last night (Thursday January 13)

Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and the new Queen Elizabeth – making her maiden call in the United States – met for the first time before sailing past the Statue of Liberty together and out of New York Harbour.

Queen Mary 2 departed from the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, while Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria left from the Manhattan Cruise Terminal’s Piers at 6.30pm local time.

Thousands of New Yorkers lined the shores of Manhattan, from Battery Park to Hudson River Park, to see the Cunard fleet gather.

The celebrations began with a 21-gun fireworks salute as the three ships sailed out of New York Harbour illuminated by a spectacular fireworks display.

As a salute to the event the Empire State Building was flood lit in Cunard red.

About Adam Coulter
Adam Coulter was a bit of a cruise novice when he took over the captaincy of Cruise International in 2010. In the past year and a half he's jumped right in, clocking up seven cruises in a year and a half plus a visit to the Panama Canal. When he's not on board a ship he likes nothing more than jumping off to do a spot of scuba diving, preferably in the warm waters of the Caribbean.
