Hurtigruten adds extra flights to see Northern Lights

Northern LightsHurtigruten has added a number of extra regional departures to its Northern Lights itineraries this year.

For the first time a new direct flight from Bristol is featured, as well as additional dates for Gatwick, Manchester and Edinburgh between October and December, 2012.

The new charter flights are available on select departures for the 12-day Classic Round Voyage from Bergen to Kirkenes and back, with prices from £1,299pp.

They are also available on the five-day Arctic Highlights itinerary, which is spent entirely above the Arctic Circle sailing from Tromsø to Kirkenes and back – maximising the chance to see the Northern Lights where experts say they are more regularly spotted (prices start at £949pp).

In addition, a pre-Christmas departure is being offered for the Astronomy Voyage (prices from £1,899pp).

This year is predicted to be the best in the past 50 years to spot the Northern Lights due to increased solar activity.

About Adam Coulter
Adam Coulter was a bit of a cruise novice when he took over the captaincy of Cruise International in 2010. In the past year and a half he's jumped right in, clocking up seven cruises in a year and a half plus a visit to the Panama Canal. When he's not on board a ship he likes nothing more than jumping off to do a spot of scuba diving, preferably in the warm waters of the Caribbean.
